Hey guys,
i've been looking at clutch kits and found some by: excedy, eclutchmasters, clutch feel technology

That are for my car and handle the same amount of pressure 2,600, and have 6 puck pressure plates,(organic and solid) and such.

My question is why are these not as popular as ACT?
is it because of quality?

If anyone has any reviews or has a clutch other than ACT on their car give me your toughts on it.

Thanks

the well known performance shop here told me that they would recommend exedy over any other clutch, and it was only like 100 bucks more an an OEM one...I don't have any experience with one though...sorry.

act is the most wodely used because they are the cheapest, u can get an act 2600 from anywhere for about 400, while a comparable clutchmasters clutch(2500lb pressure plate with street disc) will run u close to 600 unless u get a deal on it from somewhere
they are also the most widely available because clutchmasters requires u to pay a $50,000 buy in to be a clutchmasters reatiler and sell their clutches, get a buisness liscense and u can order act clutches at wholesale prices and sell them urself i know several people who used to do just that
imo, and in that of many others in both domestic and import tuning circles, i would consider clutchmasters clutches the best u can get, but they certainly arent the best bang for the buck, and the cm 2500lb is refered to as their stage 3 clutch, they offer a stage 4 and 5 for almost every application, although i know someone who ran a cm stage 4 in his 2g street car and all it did was eat trannys when he drove it around stop and go on the street, someone else i know had a stage 5 in his civic and it chirped every gear regardless of rmp, there was no slipping, that clutch was either in or out, nothing inbetween

I have a ClutchMasters HDTZ "Kevlar" clutch. I love the danged thing, but I haven't put a lot of horsepower through it yet. The peddle pressure is very light, engagement is smooth, and it is night and day better than the stock clutch. I figured it was good crankwalk insurance, although there's no good evidence to indicate that -- just wishful thinking on my part. The bad news is that it's wicked expensive.

my frend just put a rps into her celica and she loves it, dunno if it counts cuz its not a dsm, but rps is a good company, and there clutches are very high quality, imho that is.

more opinions please

RPS carries two different pressure plates and two different discs. The PP is the Sport (Black) and the Max (Blue). One is a slightly modified PP (Sport) and the other is heavily modified (Max). The PP on the Max can be altered in 100lbs increments and for the Eclipse PP can have a range of 1900lbs through 3200lbs . Which doesn't help a lot on smooth engagement (3200lbs). Currently, RPS manufactures two different Max PP for your compition needs a 2200lbs and 2500lbs. Both are recommended for cars that are exceeding the norm of 300+HP. Our discs are street disc w/ Marcel and the 6 puck sprung hub w/modified high spring rate that's alternating, which gives the 6 puck a proggressive spring pack. :thumb:

I have an RPS on my Eclipse and love it. Also, thought I'd mention that while ACT is loved by DSMers, it seems to be universally hated by MR2ers with reasons being stated as poor quality and general problems. Guess it just depends on the car.
