Hey guys,
I own a 90 tsi, which doesn't have alot of options for a shifter change.:( I have the metal bushings under the shift plate. Just recently though I bought the Greddy Counter-weight shift knob. This thing is awesome!! Its small, round, makes the height seem to be shorter (than previous knob), and weighs a ton! Well maybe not a ton, but very very heavy. This has made the shifts seem alot more positive. (If that makes sense.) When shifting it goes into gear and there aren't any questions or worries. The throw of the shifter is still pretty long, but I'll try to figure that one out later. The shift knob was about $40. I'd do it again in a heart beat. I'm planning on replacing tranny, t-case, and diff fluid in the near future. I thought I'd post this and try to help those with a 1990 and are looking for options. Later.

Oh, does anyone know of a 1990 short shifter that I might have over looked? Or perhaps a way of shortening the stock shifter throws? Thank you.

I think it was Mofugas -now long-gone- who used to make one for the 90. I've never seen anything about changing to a later linkage, so I guess it won't work (and with people blowing N/T engines, and changing out ABS, power steering, AC, engines, and transmissions from auto to stick, I think I'd have heard of it). But I don't know what would be so tough about a changeover- anyone?
If you just shorten the stick, you'll get a bit more of the effect you got when changing to the shorter knob.

Just cut some of the stock shifter down, then reweld it at the base. Don't try to take material out of the middle, take it down at the base. Easier to weld back on and also will be much stronger.

there was a thread a while back about a fella switching to the 92 plate and shifter and cables made it 110% better he said

KGB Pilot 125,
I'm interested in changing to the 91-94 shift plate and cables. Is this a straight up bolt-on affair however? If it is I could probably get the stuff I need from a junkyard. I also know where I can get a short shifter for the 91-94s. I'd probably switch to the copper bushings wastefuldreamer was talking about while I was at it. What exactly should I search for as far as the other thread is concerned. Thank you guys for your feed back and I hope to hear from you some more. Later.

it was about 4 months ago maybe I dont remember for sure but I do know he said it worked really well I paid attention because I thought about the same thing since I hate the way my tranny shifts. I will search for it tomorrow (sunday)
