How hard is it to install new syncros? I just messed up my 3rd gear one and the reverse one has been bad for a while so I want to take care of these .... Anything else I can do besides just replace them?

You can buy upgraded synchros from any of the DSM tranny specialists....i.e. TRE, shepracing, BMtranny. If you have never torn into a transmission before, i would save yourself the headache and let somebody else work on it for you. While you have it out, you might as well have it rebuilt completely.

hmm but I always make sure the car is not moving when I go into reverse ... why would it work fine sometimes and then sometimes not?

Luck of the lineup. Sometimes the idler gear will be resting right where the tooth spaces are just right, other times you'll clash. Learn the habit of snubbing against 5th before going into reverse, and the little "brake" will be able to handle its task. Still, you'll have times that the teeth are aligned so that they block each other, so just _barely_ let the clutch move things (or let the car coast half-a-foot, if possible) and try again.

Revese is fun, its a straight cut gear. To bad the rest of the tranny isnt. LOL

Send it to Sheperd. www.shepracing.com

your tranny will be the best it can be when you get it back.
