:talon: Well i am finally getting a tranny for my car after a couple months run around ad bs. I decided to stop being a tight wade and instead of tring to go cheap just get it done so i ordered a tranny from TRE it is just the basic rebuild but it is more then enough for me right now. it should hopefully be in by the end of this week r beginning of next week and i will put it in asap and let ya'll know how it is :thumb: .I am so glad i will be able to drive my car again:D

i don't know who builds one better i got a TRE cause my other tranny was completely screwed and they had the tranny already just and built by the time i got them the money they were waiting on me. And ASZRAEL1266 its alot but i had a big run around tring to get mine rebuilt so it was easier but don't worry man you well get what u want it just takes time i have to jobs so that helped me the money and tips i make delivering pizza helped pay for it but just keep on.

I work one job full time and have to pay rent and all the stuff that goes along with it. When i need a new tranny i will try to go with them. As of now I have one of the smoothest shifting DSMS's. Its the smoothest shifting car i have had and all the dsmers that that felt it said the same thing its very undsm like

>should hopefully be in by the end of this week r beginning of next week and i will put it in asap and

>I just ordered the TRe race tranny should be in in 2 weeks...

OK guys, the clock is on! Lets see when you will actually get your trannys…

FYI, I have my trannys done by Shep racing, typical turnaround actually is 1-2 weeks.

Whats the going rate for a TRE tranny? I have a 1997 gsx and I'm looking for a stronger tranny. I just lbew outteh 3rd gear synco in my stock tranny and I want a tranny set up for a little more race.

wow thats quite a bit of money but it's worth it I guess. This 3300 is if you do the install/uninstall of the tranny yourself correct? I saw that they do rebuilds for $500 + parts. What if I take out my tranny and ship it to them and do the rebuild and have all the goodies put in? It should only cost 1200 - 1500 then but be good as new too right? Sorry about all these basic questions, but transmission work is new to me.

i am paid a total of $1910 and that was for the tranny with a tre basic rebuild but thats all i need also includes $75 shipping and $35 for a box to shipp it in not that bad of a price i don't think

i emailed him on his thoughts on what i should get for mysetup. i told him id probably be running anywhere from 400-500 FWHP he told me this.

I’d option for these upgrades:

HD intermediate shaft

Double synchro 2nd gearset

HD synchros

Steel shift rails

EVO 3rd/4th shift fork. (the EVO fork won’t fit on 1st/2nd but very rarely does that fork break)

8% taller 5th gearset

Maybe a Quaife limited slip front differential. They are pricey, $975, but well worth it.

The most common failure we see with the FWD transmission besides worn synchros is broken front differentials. This is caused by wheel hop and or excessive wheel spin. This is followed by broken 3rd/4th shift forks.

The cost to do a basic rebuild on your transmission is around $900.

The cost with the above parts will run about $2300. Loose the Quaife and you’re looking at $1300.

Turn around times is 2 weeks.

Well good luck with those TRE trannys guys. I would not suggest a TRE tranny to my worst enemy at this point.
Reason being, I have a customer who went with one of Team Rip Offs trannys and it's been a complete nightmare.

The quick details are- Trannys been out four times, back to TRE 3 times, Turn around time has been at least a month if not more each time (with a week turn around time promised), Over $5000 invested in to the thing (not including labor), and it currently sounds like a card in a bikes spokes!

Some of the problems include- 90 selector arms where installed on the first rebuild (this is a 93' awd tranny), the customer didn't realize it till it was to late. That's when he brought the car to me with a bad 3rd gear. I switched the cables and shifter console with no luck. Tranny came out and went back to TRE.
The BS begins. "One week and it will be back, you should upgrade this and that, the GVR-4 first gear is cracked, I made a few welds in the center diff housing and it will never break so you don't need a 4-spider diff ( he did not mean a welded center diff), ect., ect."
So instead of fixing it for free TRE managed to talk this guy into upgrading a tranny which was supposedly bullet proof after the fist rebuild. There is a way to get some money out of a free fix.
Second, if a GVR-4 first gear is so strong why was it cracked after a few thousand miles?
And the best part was when I didn't believe the BS about the center diff and went to put a SD 4-spider in this fresh rebuilt tranny. I figured it would take a half hour, wrong! It took about 4 hours to get the thing apart! Remember this tranny just went together. Everything was jammed on. and once I got to the diff the thing was seized due to the housing being machined incorrectly.

Anyway I'm sure you guys get the point by now. All I have to say in the end is, I send all my customers tranny out to Shepard racing. He never sells you stuff you don't need, charges WAY less and I have yet to have a problem with on of his rebuilds.

Good luck guys

Chris

well if so its to late for me i got my tranny in today and plan on puting it in tom and wed. so i hope every thing goes good. shame u had to post that now. but to late is to late i will let ya'll know how every thing goes once i put it in.

Please do give some feed back on your tranny once you get it in. Good luck with it. I hope everyone has better luck then we have had with TRE.

I happen to be around Chris's shop when he was strugling with this tranny.

Speed Design part was fine (as always), but when trying to install it, Chris had one hell of a time taking-out TRE center diff from a freshly rebuild tranny.

I had taken the TRE modified diff out to replace it with the SD 4-spider diff. Like Leon said I had one hell of a time getting this tranny apart. I have had trannys that have never been apart in 10 years that come apart 100 times easier.
Once I got to the diff it seemed TRE mad some welds on the inside of the housing and machined them back down to tighten the clearance between the housing and the cross shaft. The only problem was the clearance was now so tight you almost couldn't spin the gears anymore.
I have no idea how this was supposed to take place of a SD diff. I am very happy I found this problem before I put the tranny in or it would have been another problem.
Not like the tranny is any good at this point anyway. It is making more noise everyday. I doubt it will last a month before it is un-drivable.

just broke my TRE tranny with 6k miles on it, it was build with double synchro's everywhere long with evo forks and all that good stuff, taking it apart to see what happened.... ( wont stay in 2nd gear if u let the clutch out fast, but if u go SOOOOO slow it will stay in gear, otherwise it grinds and shoots out of gear )
