right now my motor is out of the car and dissasembled, so i can putt in a built shortblock and clutch in..the clutch is an rps 6puck with sprung hub..im shooting for around 450-500hp for now on the car, and its mainly a drag car with some street driving

last thing i want to do is get everything back in and ready to go and something break. ive done about all the precautionary things i can afford (all new seals, pumps, ect.) while im in there. but im trying to decide if i should get a taboo billet clutch fork or not.

is the clutch fork breaking mostly just hype after one persons broke, or is an actual problem that should prolly be tooken care of while everythings apart?

i really dont "have" the extra money for one, even though its not rediculous at $120..thats $120 i really dont have and will have to be put on the good ole credit card.

even worst the spending the extra money would be having to take stuff apart again after it breaks...

so anyways...anyone have any personal experience/input on this?

I have their clutch fork on their car. I would highly recommend putting this in while the tranny is out. Once you get to banging the gears hard, which you do in a track car, you WILL break the stock fork. I would for sure put it in now before the tranny goes back in the car. Otherwise, you will be cussing yourself later.

thanx for the reply...im also thinking i should go ahead and order it...

any other input before i go ahead and order it up?

No other input from me. The install is pretty straight forward. They sent me an instruction sheet that was pretty detailed. If you have ever put in a clutch before you can for sure handle this.

i was going to order it today, but no phone number on there website:confused:

so i sent taboo an email and a PM through dsmtalk asking if they were ready for immediate shipment...hopefully they are, because if its going to be a few weeks before a new batch comes or something ill have to pass on one, gotta get it ready for the dsm shootout:thumb:

be sure to put in steel shift forks while you have the tranny out. same thing, why not do it while its out?

how hard is that to do?..i would imagine it involves taking the actually tranny apart which i have never done before..

My fork broke with the 2600. But it hardly seems like an issue with all the times I've lost the clutch hydraulics ;) I think I've driven this car a total of 6 months out of the last 3 years with no clutch. Big Rig style. Do it if you can afford it. Even though I can get the tranny out in an hour and back in in two, its stil retarded to do all that work for a shyte fork...

Changing shift forks would only take me about 3 hours with the tranny out, but its more trouble than its worth. People that break forks are typically the ones who try to pull/push the damn shifter a foot further than it has to go. There is a difference between fast shifting and stupid shifting ;o) Havng cables that are out of adjustment may agrevate the situation too. I wouldnt change those unless you had to though. Other things are more likely to break, like center diff or third gear. :)

It's not just over throwing your shifter but shifting to fast. I broke my 3-4 fork, nothing left except where it attaches to the rail. Ended up taking out the whole tranny. Case still good but teeth are broken on all the gears. Get upgraded forks to save trannys.

It is worth every penny trust me I know what damaging trannys is like and havening to tear them apart. I'd definitely take all of the precautionary steps while the transmission is out. By the way use the credit card especially for your DSM!:thumb:

I broke a clutch fork with a centerforce clutch....it's not a myth, it happens more than people know...how many threads are there on clutchs not disengaging and they've checked everything and it's still not disengaging? Alot....if this car is going to be mostly drag, I'm assuming that you won't be too light on the clutch pedal, so might as well do it, and while you're there, pull the slave cylinder restrictor out, it'll take make the clutch respond faster

uh i made this thread like 8months ago...not sure why people bump threads this old unless they are doing a followup or something...

i ended up putting a taboo fork and tre steel shift forks in..

sorry, didn't check the dates on the previous posts, good call on the shift forks, shitty shift forks is why I went through 2 used trannies

what kind of pressure plate do you plan on using. thats the question to ask your self how much more pressure are you running over the stock pressure plate. anyways with that puck clutch i am sure will need to rebuild the trans soon again, (atleast you got a sprung hub) so whether you are going to do it now, or you can just wait till the next trans rebuild. can't say much with out knowing anything about the pressure plate

it's not even so much the pressure plate force, that force is multiplied by how hard you're stepping on the clutch, which in any racing is usually pretty hard. Like I said before, I broke a clutch fork on a centerforce clutch, which has a relatively stock pressure plate. The updated clutch forks from mitsu are better, but the taboo forks are the best for ACT clutches

you think it needs to be changed when putting in a 2100? I really don't want to have to change this out but If I have to I will. Could I get by with a new one from mitsu? If so how much are they? Thanks

if you're not puttin down mad hp and just running a 2100 i doubt you'd have any problems. Don't by mitsu - taboo's isn't that much and will hold up to anything. If you do replace it though, that's one less thing you have to worry about breaking.

(definately get an oem throw-out-bearing)
