Is it possible to change this without taking the tranny out? If so anyone got a howto ??

Nope. Unfortunately, there's no way around it, you'll have to drop the tranny to get to the release fork. It's not too bad if you want to do the work yourself, follow the instructions for a clutch swap, located here, they're pretty thorough, and print out the sections on removing the tranny bellhousing & the clutch from the shop manual and you should be golden.

Just be lucky it doesn't involve actually opening up the bellhousing ;)
