help, auto tranny solution

:thumb: First post, sup everyone. Well to be quick about it, i have a 91 eclipse GSX i just bought.. but it auto :( ..... but it has only 56K on the org motor :) and a new turbo :cool: . So i asked around alittle, mostly in the car chat (not many people as young as I know much about cars), and heard that the stock auto tranny can only take about 250 hp.. first i wanna know if this is true, second i would like to know if there is a performance auto tranny made by a reliable company.
 
i've heard level10 made a "kit" and converters for dsm's.my last talon was a 91 auto.all i did was go through the tranny,someone makes a hd 2nd band and hd overdrive clutches,not sure who makes them but got them at future transmission.look on vfaq and see if you can find anything.i did turn up my line pressure 2 turns.cant remember the actual pressure(3 years ago) setting i used.i liked it better than my 5spd i have now.had a 14b ported,br exhaust/dp,k&n,manual boost control.could spool it sitting still-brake pack.not sure how much one can hold so hopefully someone who knows will chime in.good luck.

There is no way that the auto tranny can only take 250 hp in stock form unless we are talking 250 wheel hp, not at the crank. Even then I find that obsurd. I have over 200hp at the crank on my auto tranny having put in a GVR - 4 manual transmission motor with a 14b, 450c injectors, manual ecu, all emissions removed, and all freebie mods and am having no problems at all. The auto trannies in dsm's are very robust. The kit from level 10 will make everything about the transmission more performance oriented and be able to handle 500+ hp according to their info. You can get higher stall convertors like the one from pro torque or ramchargers and get a little more performance as well. You can also beef up the tranny cheaper by doing the Dunnrite Convertors shift kit and also upgrading the end clutches. This is a cheap upgrade if you do it yourself and can handle a Big 16 g turbo no problem. The stock torque convertor has a 2100 rpm stall but is still pretty tough. Join the AT DSM club on yahoo if you need some good info. Everyone there is really knowledgeable about upgrading the tranny.
