<kinda long but please read>
Hello everyone. i just bought a '99 eclipse GS 2 weeks ago from deil toyota down here in PA. it was a trade in that they were selling, and after my truck has died, i've been sick of car shopping so i decided on it. anyway, the car had 71,000 miles on it and i put about 1,900 on it in two weeks(I like driving it). so im driving downtown oneday to get engine oil cause it was low, and i hear this awful grinding sound, and i figured a splash guard, or maybe even the front end came off. so i pull over and look, then open the hood to find smoke pillowing out, look underneath and something was dripping on the exhaust causing the smoke. my friend drove by 20 minutes later (no cell phone here) and i drove it around with him and it seemed fine, so he followed me back to my house.
somewhere on the way back, i heard another grinding and it kind of locked up the front a little bit, then a huge pop and i swore i heard something hit the ground. i get out and flash lights at my friend. jokingly, i was like " i think my tranny fell out", we always say that when someone beats their car as a joke, but then i looked back and saw pinion gears on the ground. underneath, there was a hole the size of my fist or bigger in the tranny housing.
my mom called them up today, it was a 30 day or 1000 mi. the later i ddint know, and we had it for 22 days.
anyways, this jackass old guy tells my mom this big lecture on how kids like me watch "2 fast 2 furious" and then we go in our cars and bang gears and all this bs. he said he has a M3 and teenagers try to race him all the time. so this guy thinks im the stereo-typical teenager and tells my mom all this shit and that the reason for my car braking is purely from abuse. he said it needs a new tranny and clutch for three thousand fking dollars. he said that the clutch smells "hot", even though it was sitting in for 3 days.
so yeah my mom wants to sue them but i think we will loose cause every shop said it was abused.
anyways, i would like to know what you have to do to a car to shoot pinions gears out the housing, maybe u just have to peel out once i dont know anything about eclipses, but no one else seems to have these probs. the same thing happened to my truck but it had 150000 mi on it and was the clutch was dumped well past 3 grand about 700 times. still, i dont expect to waste 10,000$ becuase some jackasses didnt check/change tranny fluid or because mitsu has a recall i didnt know about.
Please give me some input, thanks.
