I am not AWD so can't tell you very much, But I do know this..

I have a freind with a 97 GSX who way back had the transfer case replaced by a shady mechanic.

he has since broke 3 TRE built trannys with QUAIFE center diffs.. the diff broke every time. .

he put a SHEP buitl tranny in with a welded stock center in it and within a week the T-Case broke..

come to find out the car had the wrong transfer case in it the whole time it was from a different year which was a different gearing, causing the rear tires to try and turn at a different speed from the front tires.. Thankfully Shepard let us know what had happened and hooked my friend up with a good deal on a new output shaft since it was destroyed too..

SO from this I can tell you a quaife is not a very strong differential it broke three of them because the t-case was putting excessive force on it all the time.. the welded center diff. was strong enough that it broke the t-case instead it it breaking..
