Argh - Dropping Tranny...but

I've been trying to get the tranny dropped, but for some reason, the speedo cable absolutely refuses to come out. Is there any special trick to it?

Let me elaborate - I'm trying to drop my tranny so I can replace my throwout bearing.... We were progressing fine in getting things disconnected and unbolted until it came to getting the speedo cable out.

It took us two hours just to get the damned thing unscrewed, but even then - the wire still stubbornly won't come out of the transmission. The wire is completely unscrewed, but the wire threads through into the transmission. I tried as hard as I could to pull it out, but it won't budge.

HELP! Any ideas?

for me,I take the whole speed sensor out. it says so on VFAQ also.
since there's two clips that hold the harness together, which is even difficult to get out with the sensor completely out

From the Clutch VFAQ - all it says is to remove the speedometer cable...


But even if I did remove it from the firewall, that wouldnt' change the fact that its lodged in the transmission.

I really need help here folks, can anyone else help?

I suggest you disconnect at the guage cluster, get the tranny on the ground and then try to get it out. More then likely its corroded in there and you'll end up buying a new cable. I got mine from a junkyard for like 30 bucks and you can use any 2.0L turbo or non turbo cable.

I doubt it'd be corroded, it was out roughly a year ago.... but I'm gonna try some WD-40...

Any more suggestions?
