ok for some reason when I am driving my car and I goto put it into 3rd gear at higher rpms like 4.5 or 5 thousand it seems to slip or make a type of binding noise or grinding noise for some reason and this only happens when I shift fast or normally. so when I shift into 1st and 2nd giving about the same amount of clutch it seems to grind in 3rd for some reason only way I can keep it from griding is to keep the clutch down longer and shift at lower RPMS while the clutch is held down...I am in need of some serious help..

you will need to remove the trans from the car and rebuild it.

ok well today I checked out a couple of transmission shops that would fix it 1st shop I went to the peopel were really nice..test drove my car and it turned out to be a synchro in the 3rd gear..of course the guy didn't know how much it would cost to fix it unless he had a look inside he charges 75 bucks an hour which I thought was kinda high..he said he would replace all the syncro's the bearings and all of the seals and maybe a new clutch and surface the flywheel..seemed like alot for me but he couldn't give me a quote on it maybe around 1,000 bucks for labor and parts. so I went to anoughter shop to find out this other guy was a total ****...I'm serious he drove my car never saying a word kinda creepy I thought..then he corrects me when I say syncro like it makes a diffrence he treated me like a kid and I'm like 18 and ppl say I look 25 what an ass..so I took it card and threw it out the window..LOL so the first shop I went to may be the shop I should goto hopefully it can be 1,000 job..is thousand dollars kinda high for a job like that? or should I just buy a whole new transmission? but I wouldn't know how much one costs..thankz..~Dustin(Eclipse95)

..then he corrects me when I say syncro like it makes a diffrence

what do you mean?

1000 would be pretty cheap for all the labor and parts. get it all in writing before you have him do it. I would have guessed the whole job would cost around 2000.

really kick ass..but the second guy(asshole dude) he will only replace the 3rd gear syncro and maybe third gear parts for him would be like 500+ and labor 500+ but the first guy I went to offered all new syncro's and all new bearing and all new seals and possiably a new 3rd gear..I was guessing it would be around 1,000 bucks and he said "ya around 1,000 for all of that to be put on" so I might check out the first guy...and thankz alot for the help...*raped btw for the first guy i cannot get it in wrighting for some reason cuz he said he can only give me a quote when he opens the tranny...

if you do the labor yourself (or get a freind to help) replacing 3rd gear synchro will cost around $125

i did it myself.. tranny out on monday, had gear pressed off and new synchro put on and gear pressed back on on tuesday.. tranny back in weds....

cake.
