im confused...u guys say thick tranny oil, dealership says no

Well i called the dealership today to inquire about tranny fluids to help my synchro problem. i told him that most ppl say thicker is betterfor smoother shifting, and he says that thinner is better, like 5w30 but if i wanted thicker stuff to use 70w90....i am going to the track next fridayand i want something in before then. i also saw a "multi gear concentrate" which is a tube of goo stuff that u put in that is supposed to thicken things and put a film on everything. I NEED HELP QUICK. i would think its logical that thicker fluid is beter to help out the syncros, but he said no...so any suggestions?

The synchros work off the friction component in the fluid, not the viscosity of the fluid. Everyone recommends GM Synchromesh, BG Synchroshift, or Redline MTL.

I don't see where that would make a difference. I'd love to hear an explanation.

Defiant is right. The friction modifiers help to match the speed of the syncros to the gear which makes a smooth gear selection. The more "grab" the additive has the quicker the "synchronization" is. It doesn't depend too much on the viscosity. Actually the slicker the oil is the worse it shifts.

I've had good luck with Lucas Oil additive and I can find it at my local Auto Parts stores. I've been using it for two years and my tranny shifts pretty good. I can even get down into first while I'm moving!!

Do a search for BG or synchroshift, AWD doesn't come into it.

The BG is fine in your car. Trust me. If the trans continues to not shift smoothly, though, think about getting the trans fixed before grinding synchros turns into grinding away of gear teeth. :-(

Why does the GM Synchromesh I just bought have part# 12345349? It also came in a short black bottle whereas I've heard it used to come in a tall white bottle, have they changed something about this stuff?

Probably a new bottle. That's the number Quaker/Pennz say is compatible with their Synchromesh.

It must not matter all that much, or the boards would be flooded with "X-Lube blew up my gearbox!" posts, and although there are many suggested improvement lubes, I've yet to run across a "Keep Away" post. And, the improvments all seem to relate to synchro effectiveness.

The one I got , the oil is like realy thin. Is this the way is sooposo to be? and also is red in color. I just don't want to make a mistake with auto tranny oil. My came in a short black bottle #12377916.
