OK, popped the clutch saturday night and snapped an axle in my 3 bolt rear end. I want a four bolt but my buddy at the junkyard keeps looking around and all of the 92 - 94's he's finding everyone says they are three bolts??? I thought they were all four bolts those years? Am I missing something? Please enlighten me??  :talon: I miss my car already, the conversion van loaner isn't nearly as much fun.

The car is a 5 speed. I already know the gears are different for an auto. I also know that 4 bolts supposedly started in 92. However every 93 or 94 my buddy has found seems to be a three bolt??!?? Did only certain cars come with a four bolt rear or is everybody who is checking not counting one of the bolts? I find that kind of hard to believe as he has checked his own inventory and at least three other yards?? Help!!! I want a four bolt rear but I'm being told they are rarer than hens teeth  :talon:

I don't mean to insult you in any way, but maybe you are looking in the wrong place. Perhaps you are counting the wrong bolts some where or maybe the cars you BELIVE are 92-94 are infact not. Here is a link to a very helpful page that explains how to identify a 4 bolt as well as how to perform the swap. I hope this is of some help to you.

Candela, I realize how noobish this sounds but it really is a serious question. We actually had one of the yards go out and pick up a 93 with the loader and count the bolts on the flange at the diff and the flange at the hub. He said he counted three??? Are these yards just way wrong on their years or did some come with three bolts and some with four?? If they were different what options do I look for for a four bolt?? I hate to sound stupid here but I'm at a loss  Can you please enlighten me. And yes, I've read and reread the VFAQ on this. I know how to tell the differences and I know how to install it. That isn't the issue. I just need to find one. My buddy at the yard gave up on looking for one because he is sure they don't exist now. If I can give him a place to look hopefully he can get me one. :talon: Please help :(

Junk yards like to mark crap wrong so they can charge more. Almost every time I've went to look/buy already pulled parts they are not identical to mine. Sure they bolt up, well most of the time, but they are usually from an earlier model. I think most of the yards use a book or computer program that tells them what year parts will cross over to other year cars. So you ask for a 93 and then they pull out thier 90 and play dumb. I'm glad you had them count the bolts because you would have got screwed. On the oposite side of the coin maybe not all 92's have 4-bolts. Don't give up! Keep looking!

No, the guy at the yard I am dealing with is a good friend. He fully understands what I am looking for and has found me every other oddball interchangeable DSM part I have ever asked for. The yard he had lift the car up and check is a reputable yard he deals with every day and lives almost right next to so they know him. He explained my car is a 91 and had a three bolt rear and that I wanted a 93 or 94 four bolt rear from a 5 speed non ABS car. They assured him that the car they had was a 93 and lifted it up to count the bolts. Ordinarily I would blame the parts man but this time I know it is not the case. I am ready to give up and just assume that everything I have read about 4 bolts is a total lie unless someone can clear this up for me. Please, I need good hard facts not just "well, I think that..." I appreciate the input but I really need a concrete place to look.

LOL

Well this whole thing sounds pretty silly to me. 92+ cars HAVE 4 bolts and it doesn't matter if it has abs or not as it has nothing to do with the rear end. The only think is that it was either the wrong year, he is a retard and doesn't know what he is counting (although you sorta eliminated that factor) or someone didnt know what they had and got taken. I know of a girl that has a dsm and her boy friend took her 4 bolt and gave her his 3 bolt cause she didnt care... this could be the case 9or something similar of course). But eitehr way they do exist my friend. You just have to look hard. Keep an eye on www.dsmtrader.com and check out some different yards...

Thank you for the reply, I figured you'd have the answer. I'm not sure what everybody else's deal was but my buddy finally found me a 4 bolt rear out of a 93. Got it for me complete with suspension arms and cradle for $250. And yes its an LSD with 3.54's :thumb: Sometimes it just pays to be persistent I guess :talon:
