I've noticed that after a long drive, or a couple of hard pulls, when I put the car in neutral, I can hear a thumping/chattering sound. The sound goes away when I press in the clutch pedal. I have an ACT 2600 with the ACT street disc. I just installed it less than 2000 miles ago. Does anyone have an idea of what this could be? I can also hear the throwout bearing squeeking every once in a while. This troubles me because when I replaced my old clutch, it only had about 6000 miles on it, but it had started to wear out the T.O. bearing. What could be causing my clutch/tranny to wear out throwout bearings so quick?

Did you put a new throw out bearing in? If so did you extend your thowout bearing pivot arm? The only thing I can think of and its in the left field is that your flywheel and or pressure plate did not get bolted down correctly and leaving one side or small side of the pressure plate not to be fully compressed. I assume the correct bolt tightening sequence was followed when putting both back on the car? I had a 93 TSI that went through a throw out bearing in less than 1000 miles and it trashed the pressure plate on a 2600 because the bolt down procedure was not followed.

If it were me I would drop the tranny and double check the flywheel and pressure plate to make sure its lining up right with the throwout bearing by looking at the wear mark on the pressure plate. I hope that gives some insight. Good luck.
