Background on car is I had the Yoke seal replaced under the Recall about 5k miles ago and they also replaced my transfer case because it was showing signs of wear.
Now the 5k miles ago was about in 2007 ish time so it was a long time.

Now I have removed my transfer case about 3 times in a 6 month period. I just noticed this today what looked like fluid building up by the lip of the transfer case. I am thinking (and HOPING) that it is from when removed and installed the transfer case I tipped the transfer case back hence causing fluid to leak out which built up.

OR is this a clear sign of the yoke seal problem...again... OMG

The fluid doesn't drip down or anything it just kinda builds there. If I wipe it away it starts to re build there...Please tell me this isn't the Yoke seal problem as I am never going to be able to ever drive this car smh:notgood:

looks like the seal in the transfer case if so its a easy fix just pop the old one out and new one in dealer item or most vendors.

Not trying to doubt you but more pick your brain. Is it uncommon for the yoke seal to go bad after replacing it from recall? Or is there something you can see that makes you think transfer case seal?

Thanks

I never replaced mine so I wouldn't know, ask away I may be able to help maybe not, were all to here to help and learn.

hey, I have the same issue, i recently dropped tranny/t-case. replaced the axle seals. i purchased all the seals available for the T-Case from Extreme psi, i even applied RTV to the Drive shaft and were it slides into the T-case, But still the puddle is there,

I hope you solve yours' might help others too.

Have you ever had the yoke replaced under the recall? I was under the impression once you replace it with the revised yoke, you shouldn't have anymore problems.

Any vibration in the car? Does it do it from a stop? Does it when you boost the car?

I haven't driven the car since I noticed the leak but if it has been leaking prior, nothing that I have noticed. I am hoping the Yoke replacement they did is good enough that it doesn't need to be replaced every couple of years. I think I will order an output seal and see if that fixes it unless anyone has any other ideas of it not being the simple output seal?

I would start with the t-case output seal and go from there thats what i did. Then dive it after replacing that and see if it fixes the leak. Start small first thats what i say.

The old seal was a pain to remove. I attempted to softly pound in the new seal but I guess I didn't remove the old seal well enough and it distorted the new one. Waiting on 2 seals to come in to try it again. I'll keep everyone updated.

Well, I tried putting in a new seal and I end up messing it up. Since these seals aren't easily available I ordered two. I am going to take it to a transmission shop and have them press in a new one. I will keep everyone updated.

I replaced the seal this past weekend and drove around, everything felt good. No weird noises or vibrations. I checked the fluid everyday and I don't see anything puddling up. Until yesterday I saw a drop on the ground under the driveshaft/transfercase end cap.

Now I did overfill the transfer case while putting new fluid in and I can see some fluid leaking out of rubber breather valve on the top. I am thinking it dripped down because if I had a Yoke seal problem or the new seal was bad ( I greased everything up) It would be consistented drops and puddling right where the driveshaft enters the transfercase.

Is that right?

Good info. Glad you (probably) got it fixed. I will def be taking my tcase in with seals after hearing how difficult it is to replace. Soon as i get to my awd swap that is.

Thanks buddy, I am going to check it every night and morning (peace of mind) to make sure it isn't leaking for sure. But I hope my thinking is correct and thinking if it's not puddling and dripping down I should be good! The transfer case is easy to replace (especially if you have pulled it off 3 times in 2 months :ohdamn:) you should be good!

What fluid are you using in the transfer case, just out of curiosity? If it's too thin it may bypass the seal even if the seal and yoke are new. I try to use the heaviest synthetic gear oil I can find, and I'll even mix that with Lucas to add even more viscosity.

Justin, I'm using redline 80w-140 per this article Recommended Transfer Case Oils- Team Rip Engineering

I just checked for any yoke brass plug symptoms or output shaft seal leakage and it still looks good.
I use Redline Shockproof Heavy in mine. .4 Qts is all you need!
Yea, got over zeolous on that:/ I'm in the theory of safe than sorry I guess.
