:dsm: my 97 GST needs a new clutch i have intake and exhaust and plan to do a bit more, i looked at the ACT 2100 but heard that it will break other drivetrain components.are these fact or opinions? i also read that some people have used a stock clutch and a 2100 preasure plate would this work? AND mainly i would just like to know what clutch will hold moderate power and not break other parts? thanks

i have a 2100 and i've been happy w/ it... the one that i've heard about breaking other driveline components is the 2600... and i think you have it backwards, i think they use the stock pressure plate with the 2100 or 2600 clutches....

if i were you i would go w/ the 2100, just my $.02

The stock clutch sucks! I upgraded my turbo and few other things before the clutch the weekend before last. Power was nice last Friday, but I wasted my stocker in less than an hour of having some fun with my new found boost.

Just get the 2100, that's the preferred clutch/pressure plate combo for our cars.

Thanks for the help, and by the way would anyone know what the estimated torque is on a gst with intake and exhaust,

The 2600 hurts the drivetrain in some cases for the same reason that it helps you put down more power: harsher (faster) engagement and better bite (less clutch slip). This translates to more torque transmitted through the clutch more quickly and therefore to the ground but also to your tranny, diff, etc...

The main component that breaks the tranny is the disc, not the pressure plate. The 4 and 6 puck discs grab like crazy and hold up well to abuse, but they break the tranny. Like everybody else said, the ACT2100 with a street organic disc is the ideal setup for 95% of GS-Ts. ACT claims it will consistently handle 322lb/ft. torque. By the time you have more power than that you'll most likely need a new clutch anyway.
