Okay, so i put in a 4-puck ACT Disc and Act Pressure plate in my 90AWD, drove the car for about two hours........went to launch it and ripped the driveline out of the car and lost reverse. So it is apparent that i had a little too much clutch for the stock transmission. I have been looking at the race transmissions from BMTranny and Team RIP, and was wondering if anybody had any recomendations? The Team Rip was more money, but it seemed to have a few more features. Also, does anybpdy else make a race transmission or are those about the only two?

And i know my bellhousing is good, would i be better off buying a fully built transmission, or should i buy the parts and have somebody build it locally??

And last but not least, did i go a bit overboard with the 4-puck? It is kinda tricky to drive around town, but i really don't mind because it launches so well, but i do not want to go that route if i am going to continue to break stuff.....Thanks, Ben

okay, it says your car is stock, the person that told you to get a 4 puck is a f*cking idiot and should be beaten. "puck" cluthes are for RACE cars, and even though many people think that their 15 second car runs 10's and is a race car, the sad fact is its not
unless you have money to burn, at this point, you dont need a race transmission. Get a good rebuild, or just a replacement for now, and pick up an ACT 2100, or if you plan on heavier mods to get in the 12's get the 2600, with the STREET disc.
oh, and incase you missed it, beat the guy who sold you the 4 puck.

hmm first of all you shouldnt of done a launch with a new clutch installed. a new clutch has to be broken in at least 1500-2000 miles before doing hard launches.

I don't think so. ACT and Centerforce recomend 500 mile break in with their street clutch. A race disc needs less.

On RRE's site they say something to the sum of We don't think you have a race car so you don't need a puck. Something along those lines. Damn though a 4puck. What in the world were you thinking. seriously?
BTW: puck clutches need NO break in! Get your tranny built by one of the 3 or 4 shops that really know what they are doing. don't go to the guys who told you to buy a 4 puck though!

my friend bought the same clutch. It was suposed o be a street disk, but they sent the wrong one out. He didnt really know the diff so he put it in. The car would chatter off the line. You would have to ride the clutch so much or it would stall. Its not that its a 4 puck that makes the difference here. Its that it is a solid hub clutch disk. It lasted awhile but one trip to the track broke the center diff. 2g's later magnus built him a new tranny that shifts like sauce:thumb:

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but isnt it the "PUCK" that is ingaged on the flywheel? or what am i thinking of?

I say pull the trans apart and rebuild it yourself it really isnt that difficult.

Thats what I did, I put in a 6-puck but it is SPRUNG so i get a LITTLE play, but I also rebuilt my tranny with TRE parts and have a nice sized turbo, I will see soon.
