1G 2g trans works in 1g?

I looked for a bit and only found info about fwd and 1g in 2g, but would a 2g fit in a 1g with a 6bolt motor? I need a trans for my shell and there is a local sale on a used racing trans for a 95 awd, but I dont want to buy it if it wont work or will be a big hassle to install

its an easy swap... you may or may not need to tap a bolt hole on the top for your 1g mount to mount too... and some people have to bend an arm for the shift cable..but in all honesty I've done this at least 3 different times and not had any of those issues... You will need to use your 1g speed sensor obviously.

I believe 2g have a double syncro 2nd from the factory .. and they "seem" like they have a closer H pattern when shifting VS the 1g trans but I've never actually measured the throw..

Otherwise its just availability

I have a new 95 trans in my 1G. Swapped everything including 92 shifter assembly and cables.

ive done it before. it went in with out a problem or having to modify any thing. i just had to swap over shifter bracket and speed sensor .

Use a flywheel to match the engine, and drive setup, ex, 6-bolt awd flywheel. All turbo Dsm clutch disks, and pressure plates are the same.

got the trans yesterday, next question is can I use the original 91 tcase or do i need a 95 tcase(year the trans came off of

As long as the output shaft is 23-spline and the transmission is a 1991-1996, then you can interchange any year 1991-1996 5-speed transfer case. 1990-early 1991 22-spline tcases and 1997-1999 tcases will not work.

ok another thing I am wondering is I have a 90 fwd parts car with good shift cables, and the one's that are on my shell just are not as clean and missing the rubber inserts were they connect to the trans. I was just going to swap them into my shell, but I read that the 90 cables are different and I would have to change the brackets ect. Were would I be able to get those inserts or should i just run the 90 line

We did a 2g Trans in my brother's 90 AWD and his shift cables worked fine.. I forget which bracket we ended up using though..

what trans mount bracket would I use? a 1g or 2g? I have the 1g poly mount but the trans does not have the bracket to attach it to and I am unsure what one to use

well the 2g bracket does not fit, so that was a waste of money.

Ok so I have the stud and a hole after that, the stud fits through the hole, but the second hole does not line up, so just I just drill out a hole? and even then the mount will not sit flat against the trans. This is the only thing keeping me from getting my motor in my car, and I am already behind in getting my two cars done. Can anyone who has done this give me more input ?

Should just bolt right up. My awd 1G had a 2G trans in it all with the 6-bolt flywheel. I needed the 2g starter plate. My 1G fwd also had a 2G fwd trans in it. The fwd 2G trans uses bigger diameter axles. The awd is all the same. I also used my 1G mounts and brackets.

Fwd to fwd and awd to awd for the mounts.

You're using the wrong spots on the transmission for the mount. Check the pictures here under #6 and #8 -- although it is for FWD, it is similar enough: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-drivetrain/355991-2g-transmission-1g-fwd.html. And the mount should sit flat to the transmission at both spots where the bolts go through.

Nope the starter plate needs to match the trans you are using.

Without making any modifications, you would need the correct 2G plate for your transmission.

Ok so the trans is on, but the dowl right below were the starter goes does not have a bolt hole, its no fully attached. Sorry I can not post pics but how do.I tighten that down?
