Hey I am writing this because I am in the search for a good quality flywheel and clutch for my N/T 1G. I haven't found any and was wondering what the differences between the turbo flywheel and clutch was compared to the N/T Flywheel and Clutch. I am in the process of converting the engine to turbo (I know it's easier to just buy a turbo car but some people like the challenge) and am going to need a stronger clutch to hold the power. basically I want to know if you can put the N/T tranny on a Turbo Engine with the turbo clutch and flywheel. Thanks.

I performed this swap a few months ago. I have pictures and would like to create a web page documenting the project when I find time. I just broke my tranny a few weeks ago. mad: Guess I shouldn't have raced this guy up the hill. It broke in second gear no less, I always thought that it would break in first from the wheel hop :) Anyway, to the best of my knowleadge, you will face the same situation I am.

To answer your question, It will bolt right up. You will have to use the NT clutch setup though. If you want your starter to hook up. :) If you are anything like me, you will break something within a few months of the swap. I am in the process of finding a turbo tranny and completing the swap.

I did have an idea though. Can you use a NT tranny with a T starter plate ? Then would that allow you to use a stepped flywheel designed for a turbo ? Are the internals of a turbo trans any stronger than a N/T ? BTW the only mods I have made are a MBC running at 15 lbs.

I missed the other question. The difference between a N/T and a T flywheel and clutch is this. On a turbo, the flywheel is stepped and the clutch plate is a little wider. My stock clutch setup started slipping in 5th on highway less than a 1000 miles after the swap.

What are you saying? Can I use the turbo flywheel and the N/T clutch or do i have to have the Turbo flywheel and the turbo clutch? Or I could just have Mine shaved down a couple of pounds. I've heard the internals of the N/T transmission are the same strength as the Turbo Transmission. Just different gear ratios. I know I could just go all the way and use the turbo tranny with the turbo clutch/flywheel, But I like the N/T gear ratio.

I am saying that you will have to use the N/T flywheel and clutch. Unless a turbo shim plate from a turbo xmission, the large flat plate that positions your starter, will allow the use of a turbo flywheel.

Ok so. All I need is a N/T tranny, Turbo Clutch, Turbo Flywheel, And a starter shim from a turbo car? That should work? Because the whole point of this is to eliminate the stock N/T flywheel and Clutch because they don't make a good aftermarket one for the N/T.

i understand the goal, and I even bought a Exedy turbo setup. The starter shim idea isn't proven, though. Just an idea I had. I wound up running the N/T flywheel and clutch. I was going to step my N/T whhel but there isn't enough material. Are you going to try it ?
