six speed tranny

my hommie is analignment tech and had to testdrive an eclipse for an alignment so so we notice a six speed h design on the knob and checked by going through the gears to findout that it was indeed six speed if any one has someinfo on where i could find one of these plz let me know [email protected]

There is no 6 spd. I have never maxxed out my 5th gear. So no need for 6

I'm sure that quaife or someone has or could make a set of 6 speed gears to go into the stock tranny. It just wouldn't be cost effective.

You should get out more, There is 93 eclipse only made for europe that has a 6 speed tranny!!!!!! Just because they don't sell it in US that does not mean they don't make it. And yes it is possible to max out the 5 gear in a turbo DSM. 168 mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 6 speed max out at 197 mph!!!!!!!!
I will post the link later on, I know a guy in Australia that has one.

Yes, but stock turbo DSM couldn't reach redline in 5th gear (140mph top end for FWD-T), how would a 6th gear help?

It will help when you are crusing at about 120, 125 or so. It will keep the RPM down below 4000. Less stress on the engine. I have a 93 laser turbo and I hit the redline on 5 gear. I don’t know at what miles because the speedometer don’t work. But maybe that’s why the trany give up on me. Am having it rebuild by Shepherd Racing .

Yea I'd loved to see that 197mph eclipse from Mars, I mean europe.
There is a guy here in charlotte that has a 200mph civic too.

There is a video of a guy doing like 180mph. His redline is pretty high though.

Double springs retainers the works.

I the video was like a minute long but he got up there pretty damn quick.

NO, NO NO NO!!!1 6 gears mean the ratios between each gear are closer, the overall top is rarely any higher. This common misconseption makes me wanna

Not a chance. Not even a little, tiny, teensie-weensie chance. If a 6 speed existed for DSMs, everyone would know about them.
It'd take 600 horsepower to get the DSM to 200 miles an hour, and it'd be know worldwide as one of the highest-powered cars ever made.

i would probably d in my pants if there was such a thing... nutshot knows what he is talking about, 6 speed has better acceleration becasue there engien is kept in the meat of the powerband more often, and i would imagine a slightly higher speed posible....

I realy want to know about this, if it is posible to swap in the 6 speed then i want one

Nutshot is right. 6 speed trannies are for making the jump between gears closer so the engine stays in the heart of the powerband. Our cars have a wide powerband, so there wasn't a huge need for it. It's perfect for autox and road racing, though. The new Celica comes with a 6 speed, it's powerband is slightly wider than my little finger, it sure isn't going 200 mph.

FYI the EVO I - III has the same tranny as us, although the final drive ratio is supposed to be different.

nice, dude, i wonder how much it owudl be to drop in an evo iii trany with 6 speed gears... that would be so cool, cause you cuold also use a sequential shifter kit... man think of how insane that would be...

if gran turismo 3 is any indicator, the switch from 5 to 6 speeds is, ass rataling

I remeber an article on a Suburau taht took out ALL of the syrncrhos and fitted an extra gear in the tranny, sould we do that?

If you figure out how, take pictures. There's a bit more to it than taking out "ALL of the syrncrhos". You'd have to design, engineer and have cut the gearsets. Probably won't set you back much over $10,000.

Ok, just finished my project, I pulled out all of the synchors and LOW and BEHOLD I ahd room for 2 GEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I changed my 4th and 5th to real low gears to aid in acceleration, made my 6th tall enough to reach 160, and my 7th reach 390MPH, really tall although I have only been able to reach 280MPH before my road runs out.


All in all do it, the hardest part is getting my tranny ouet, then just take it apart, take out the synchros, put in the 4 new cogs, 2 new Shift forks (from evo ofcourse) and I am no killing small airplanes and jets.

I will have a full report up in a a week.


P.S. for reel it doesn't cost $10,000 to d0 that, but you have to double clutch everygear.
