Yes just as the title states I want to put my 90 awd trans in my 2g I have been told you can do it but I can't find any info on it. So far I know ill have to fab up some brakets but that's not what is bothering me its the speedo thing the 1gs are cable and the 2gs are electronic so how can I do this and if any one as any more info that would help let me know please

It isn't going to work. You won't have a front and rear engine mounts. The 2g has the mounts on the front and rear of the transmission, the 1g has them on the block, there are no holes in the transmission to bolt the mounts to. ALSO, the 90 transmission isn't going to shift properly, they use a different style cable and shifter than the 91-99. You will also have a hard time getting the passenger side mount to bolt to the transmission, the axles are different splines, and the transfer case output shaft is 22 spline and your 2g transfer case will not attach to it unless you swap out the output shaft.

If you are going to go threw all this work dont use a 90 trans! They are very week look for a later model trans they are a lot stronger!

They are actually pretty similar to the 91-94 transmissions on the inside, the only big difference are the teeth on the intermediate shaft, center diff and 3rd and 4th gears.

Im gonna have to say your still wrong bryan. Unless there is an awd or awd auto specific block casting. My 95 and the auto 96 fwd turbo I pulled a harness out of had the mounts bolted to the block.

I am definetly not wrong. Awd and fwd and auto ALL have the mounts bolted to the transmission on a 2g. Here is a pic of an auto awd transmission

As i said, i've got a few 2g 7 bolt blocks in my garage, and a 2g turbo fwd sitting in there also. ALL 2g turbo cars have the mount bracket bolted to the transmission. That is how it is.

I will bet money that your car doesn't have, and didn't come from the factory with mounts bolted to the block. I've owned any combination of a 2g possible, 2g fwd 5 speed, 2gfwd auto, 2g awd 5 speed, and 2g awd auto, they ALL have the mounts on the transmission.

You can clearly see that there are no mount holes in the front of the block on the 2g block

Here is a pic of a 1g block, you can clearly see the mounting spots on the lower left side.

As they say: "Anything CAN be done given the right amount of money"...

That does not mean that it should be done... Let's say you go through the considerable waste of resourses and install the 90 tranny into a 2g, consider this:
-90 is the worst shifting tranny of all DSM trannies
-90 has an oddball shifter/cables, which would not be easy to adapt to a 2g. But then, after you spend all extra money making the "impossible", what is a little problem as "mismatched shifter"

Seriously, do not do it! There is a reason why people do not do it ;). Even 91-94 1Gs should avoid 90 trannies. And they are a direct bolt-in!

If you happen to have a good 90 tranny, sell it to someone with a 90 car and buy a 2g tranny for yourself.
