When I let off of the throttle my car seems to chug chug chug...then it is smooth. It feels like there is slack somewhere..? Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Is there some bushings or something that could be worn?
Thanks

This is a rather common problem with 1g AWDs, but some 2g have started to get this. There is no official fix or diagnosis for this but it seems that its the rear differential back lash. I have this problem on my 1g and its gotten to the point that I put the car in neutral when coming to a stop to avoid the whum whum whum noise. Some guys have replaced their rear diffs with junk yards ones that have the rear back lash within spec, but still get the noise.
There was a post on DSMtalk "deceleration whine" I think it was called, might be usefull read.

As the mileage on the car gets higher, you not only get some slack in the rear diff, but also the universal joints in the driveshaft also get slack in them from repeated use. It's called "general wear and tear". :-( Solution? Replace the universal joints, and find someone willing to re-shim the diff. Practical solution? Replace universal joints, and deal with the rear making a tiny bit of noise.
