:banghead:I have a rebuilt 4g63 and i kept my old transmission. My tcase was pooched so i found a new one I put it on without counting the splines. and it was a 23 and i need a 22.. so it made a god aweful slipping noise. I ordered a 22 spline tcase, just came yesterday. I put that on and soon enough. It made the same gros grinding sound. When the tcase was off the car was running like a top and the clutch was good too. But now whenever I push in my clutch the idle dips and makes a noise like the clutch is wobbling around. I am really frustrated now becuase I've had my car off the road for 3 months now for what should have been a week for an engine and tcase swap. HELP ME OUT

Did you check the splines on the input shaft for damage? Especially being that you somehow managed to get a 23 spline in a 22 spline.

no i didnt im lookin for one now... It was a stupid mistake.. a newb mistake i know.... would a center shaft from a 95 work?

Check the shaft, and check your transfer cases for a circular cut right behind the output sleeve (where it mates with the shaft). Search through my past threads to find pictures of what I'm talking about. If you see something like that, it means you're missing transmission mounting bolts.

I never heard that sound, speculating the damage was done before I bought it. But I do imagine it would make a very similar noise.

Hey man i looked at your other threads and I know my tranny mount is not tightened all the way. And i think tcases are 5 bolts? and i only have 4 in... would this ### that much change?

Transfer cases are supposed to have five bolts. Having one missing may contribute to the problem, since I also had one missing. The white lines on this picture show where they should be.

Tightening the tranny mount to spec shouldn't hurt... actually, that's probably your problem if it's loose enough to let it hang too low by just a little bit. But I was referring to the bolts holding it to the block. Those are known to disappear for a variety of reasons, and major damage can result. Not going to completely spoon feed you on that one though, go look on the VFAQ site for their sizes and locations.

If your RPMs drop when you press the clutch in and you hear a grinding sound, grinding is taking place. The transmission, transfer case, and starter are all allowed to move in, out, up, down, and all around when everything isn't secure.
