I have a 91 laser and its an automatic. the tranny went out a couple of months ago and it cost me $1300 to fix it. I never thought about switching a manual tranny into it until it was already fixed. Has anyone switched from auto to manual? If so, how much did it cost? I aslo have a friend that owns a 95 eclipse auto and he blew his motor a few days ago. He is going to put a stage 4 shift kit in it. Would this make a big enough difference to be worth it?

I had my 91 GSX converted to a 5spd...if you or someone else can do it correctly i'd strongly encourage it. I've gained about a second on my 1/4 (granted my a/t tranny was acting up when i ran it) and i am sooo happy i did it. The car just has an overall better feel about it - it definately unleashed some power. Keep in mind though - for you turbo owners - you'll still have a smaller turbo & injectors...not a big deal - easy to replace. I've had problems with it since my conversion but those are all related to it being the first a/t to m/t conversion done & the quality of the parts used. None the less, i love every minute of driving it.
