Any downsides to shift kits and bushings?

Now that people have been using these things for years, I have to ask, are there any downsides to these shift kits? I am reffering to all the different types of bushings as well as the shortened shafts, etc.

DOes it ever cause any type of damage to anything? I was thinking of maybe doing something on my 1g, but if it affects anything I don't want to.

Good long term mod?

I always do the base shifter bushings and the underhood bushings. I don't like the shortened throw shifters, especialy the ones with out the travel stoppers, those can cause damage. I usualy change the banana 1g shift knob to a 2g shorter knob and it makes a difference.

No ill effects from the base bushings or the under the hood end bushings as they are just stiffing up things an not altering the mechanism

Did that Fidanza come with the stopper to keep you from breaking the forks?

Not sure on a 1g, but on a 2g there is the possibility of transfering more shock to the transmission when shifting hard. I could see an abusive driver breaking shift rails. If you shift with some compassion, it is fanstastic replacing all the shifter bushings on the shifter base and the tranny shift linkage bracket in the engine compartment.

I cut probably two and a half inches off my shifter and welded it all back together. Also use the shifter plate bushings. Love the way it feels goes right into gear and not sloppy at all like the stock rubber bushings. Havent got to the the cable bearings yet but 100 percent improvement over stock.
