I'm converting a 98 tsi into awd, so I'm looking for a subframe to do the swap, and i stroll across this guy who only wants 100 for the rear subframe and diff on a 93 tsi awd ... both cars are 5pd ... the question is with a 2g trany and transfer case can i run a 1g rear diff without burning the tcase or causing major problems? if not, then could I run the 1g tranny and tcase with the rear diff without any mods other than the trans mounts?

The gearing and front differential in a FWD is geared differently than an AWD transmission. You would need the entire transmission. FWD can get up to 160 stock, and the AWDs go up to 140. Your transfer case would be chewed up.

Might wanna see if you could get a 2g one if possible.

I currently have no trans but could get the 1g rear diff in the near future and I just wondered if it would work with a 2g tcase and a 2g awd tranny

no the 2g tranny is 15% taller than 1g. the rear diff and the front diff will want to turn at different speeds. ruining the tranny, or the rear diff.
