Ok. I just recently purchased an ACT 2600, with a street disc. It seriously has only about 20 or 30 "beat" miles on it and I snagged it for $100 with new shifter cables!
With that, the guy gave me this extended push rod and when I searched, it said that was only a band-aid to a failing part. I can't find out what that failing part is. I was looking through the tech articles and I found some information saying that the flywheel step has to be machined to .612, instead of the stock specs. Is the stock flywheel specs the failing part? Or is the pivot ball the failing part? I'd rather do this right while I have the tranny out.

My other problem is making sure this is even a 2600. I searched and found out only some 2600's have raised oval things on the teeth. Lets focus on the above problems, but should I just call ACT with a serial code and see what they say?

I've had two ACT 2600's fail.. First one brok three fingers off the pressure plate withing 2k miles.. 2nd broke the springs on the clutch disc after about 12k.. Since then i only run 2900 with 6puck UNSPRUNG disc.

i have had my 2600 on for about 6k miles and is just fine

hopefully it stays that way LOL

Most people use the extended rod instead of properly adjusting the clutch pedal. That is the 'correct' way to do it.

Whenever changing your clutch, replace your pivot ball and fork, costs you all of 30 bucks and then adjust the clutch, you wont need to add any shims that way. It looks like they arent that worn until you actually get the new ones in hand.

Is your car DD? What do you say about the disc being unsprung?

Reason I ask is because I had a 4 puck sprung disc that I really liked, but the springs eventually tried to jump out of the disc (they didn't, but the fact that they were getting close was making a LOT of clutch noise and phantom knock LOL. It was an ACT 4 puck.

Now I have 2900 ACT PP and a CF DF clutch disc. I like it, but I think when the CF dies I will want to go back to a sprung puck... unless you can tell me that the unsprung 6 is not bad. I haven't felt a clutch grab as aggressively as that puck i had since having it, I loved it.

Also, an extended slave cylinder rod is NEVER the answer. All you do by using that hack is stress out your hydraulic system.... sure it "kinda works".... but the damage you're causing and the problem you're avoiding by using it are not worth it.

The answer is like someone else said up there, replace the pivot ball and clutch release fork. (don't forget a new throw out bearing too :p)

So the pivot ball, the clutch release fork, and proper clutch adjustment is what needs to happen so I can run this 2600 ok? And with the new pivot ball, does it need to be shimmed? And the flywheel still needs to be machined to .612" right?

My car was daily driven for about a year on the 6puck unsprung and i loved it. To be honest the 2900 6 puck unsprung isn't bad for a daily once you drive for a few days. The 2900 has less pedal feel and i was told by my tranny builder to not run a sprung unit if i go 6puck. Driving it daily isn't much different that my 2600 street disc combo.

Here's pictures. I thought it was worth it for a $100. And it's uncleaned considering I just bought it yesterday.
