Drag Race- Automatic Trans DSM's
My question is for you guys that have pretty fast cars with automatics. I feel many manufacturers are "missing the boat" in relation to converter selection. I've been doing some development and testing in relationship to stator and fin angles- and the results seem promising, however, I would be interested to know what types of ET and especially what types of 60 foot times you guy's are running so I can try to determine if my converters are as fast as I think they may be.

Stock Tranny with 16G, PMS, FMIC, 660's, etc and boost at 15psi I ran a 13.74@103. 60' was horrible, about 2.3.

Best was 15.374@88.22mph this is when I had just a full turbo back N1 exhasut, 15psi, turboxs bov, knn cone filter 0-60' 2.142s temp was 78degrees F. 62k miles on engine. those are disappointing times for me.

I think you would definately pick up with a better converter, by the way, how much boost can you build at the line before the car moves?

Think you need to do some tuning, I think you should be running quicker than your are with those mods.

This was quite a while ago, but I think the highest boost I got was 7psi. On the 13.74 run, it was with 5psi. I think I was getting better times with just 5psi at the line.
I'm still on stock converter now, but with the Translab Shift Kit and Green Turbo. Hopefully it will be warm enough in April to see what I run this year.

Well, it seems that we have found a way to get cars into their boost range faster through a unconventional torque converter stator blade angle and blade count, as well as looking at ideal stall speed a little differently than some of the other converter guys.

Contrary to what some people and manufacturers would have you believe- a shift kit in any trans will generally not produce measurable ET reduction. The purpose of a shift kit or valve body modification is to enhance trans durability and performance.

I don't know if my transmission sucks or if my car is really poor tuned but on my 3 runs at max boost (closed wastegate) on the t28 i had 2.5s 60' times, I did brake torque and got about 4-5psi. My times were 14.7 twice and 14.5 @ 98. I was really disappointed... but my car seems really slow before the turbo kicks in. The tranny is stock as it gets, translab kit is going in soon.

I'm actually building a 2G AWD A/T car at the shop right now. No times as of yet, car was only purchased 3 weeks ago. The owner is interested in tranny upgrades as well as the turbo/fuel/IC/engine work it was brought in for. Im always looking to hold another record, 2G A/t would be a nice accomplishment. I may be interested in offering a sponsorship to the owner, would like to talk about some testing/R&D on your convertors.

First post here ever for me.
My car is a 1g fwd. I'm running a Precision Industries converter. I don't feel that any beats whatsoever are being missed with the converter setup. I said what stall speed I wanted and that's what I got. The current setup flashes to about 3300rpm without the nitrous and leaves the line at about 7000rpm with the nitrous. I haven't made very many runs without the nitrous because everything is set up to leave the line clean with the nitrous.
I was very traction limited last year, but that will get better this year with wheelie bars and some other changes. Best 1/4 is 10.335 at 137.90 mph with a 1.716 60' time. I expect to be pulling 1.5's and maybe even 1.4's next season. I've also put down about 100whp more than what the car was making when I ran that.

Your car is flying! I'd be interseted to see your 60' times when you get the car to hook better. At that point, you will be able to learn more about your converter, and if there is room for improvement.

It must be a secret because every email I have sent him has never been responded to. I'm veryinterested in finding the best tranny mods to do to a 2g AT. I'm gonna be putting down a lot of tourque with the 2.6 stroker block. I'm looking at PI for the convertor. And I think we have found some one claiming to have a tranny upgrade kit that'll hold 650hp. I will try to have more info tomorrow.
