The South,
I guess I have a clue of how to take the output shaft out, but have no idea how to get it back in. I pulled it out by mistake and the ball fell out also. So what I'm asking is, can anyone give me directions of how to properly take out and put back in the output shaft. I looked on vfaq, did a search and came up with nothing. Any walk-thru instructions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. The output shaft would be the little stub shaft that drives the front diff. Or do you mean the output to the transfer case?

Do you have a auto or a 5 speed? What ball are you talking about? You should be able to just slide shaft back in.

It just slides back in. I am assuming you have the trans somewhat apart to have removed the C clip and VC.... if you don't and you pulled that shaft out... you got probs.

Just slip the shaft back in from the transfer case side of the trans. It only goes in one way. Line up the notch that is on the shaft with the hole and drop the ball in. If you lost it, it will cost a whole $0.39. I know since I lost mine once during a rebuild. With that ball in there, slip the VC over it, and lock it down with the C-clip. Done. without that ball there, you WILL wear the seal in th transfer case.

NJGSX96 has it exactly right :thumb: You have to put the ball back, it has to be retaind by the Viscous Coupling (or VC Eliminater) and the VC snap ring must be re-installed.

So basically slide it in thru the Xfer case side, put the ball in, and make sure the VC and c clip go over it and I'm all set? Sounds easy as hell. :D thanks guy (if what i said is what you guys mean)
