Ok so heres the story... the cars a 90 AWD been in the family since the day it was new back in 1990. Over the years its been kept up, I rebuilt the engine and put in a JDM trans (which had been cleaned up by my mitsubishi mechanic friend (about 40-50k ago.

So the other day the shifting started to get rough and then just stopped shifting, as if you were attempting to shift with out clutching in. The master and slave cylinder's are newer, full of fluid and working properly (yes they have pressure). The car has not done this before so I do not seem them being the culrit.

If you go to start the car and its in gear even with the clutch fully depressed it will still start to move. So im gathering its a failed clutch/pressure plate component or something to do with the fork/throw out bearing/pivot ball.
When the cars off it will shift through the gears normally, as it did before the other day. So I really doubt its an internal transmission problem.

Basicially what im asking here is BEFORE I go out and work in the freezing temps please verify my thinking that its something under the trans that will require it be pulled.

Thanks in advance

look to see if the clutch fork is being moved enough by the slave. if it is then pull it

Before you pull the transmission try adjusting the clutch master cylinder rod that connects to the pedal. If the problem persist there could be an air bubble in clutch line.

yea the fork is moving...checked that as soon as I checked the master and slave cylinders. Even when you pump the clutch a bunch of times to build up additional pressure you still cant get it into gear when the cars on.

Its not the slave or master at this point i can conclude that

Sounds like the clutch disc threw a spring. It can jam up and the pedal still feel fine, but never dissengage.
