Hey guys, i'm pretty sure the ACT 2100 will be my clutch of choice on my 97 gst(14b) daily driver. I drive it hard occasionally, but I never race it or take it to the track. My question is, now that I am taking my car apart, is it worth an additional $250 for a lightened flywheel as well?

My car is close to stock and I was thinking the money would be better put toward an exhaust but if I would like to hear from those who have a lighter flywheel.

Thanks guys@:thumb:

I'm currently using a lighter 8lb Fidanza - The throttle is snappier and the car is more responsive. the only problem is driving at really slow speeds (5mph) in parking lots or something it like to jump a little.. but if you don't mind holding the clutch in you'll be fine. I just adjusted my driving to compensate for it - the car revs like a champ now. Well worth it. Definitely recommend it if you have the cash.

I'm in the process of doing the same upgrade. In my opinion I think is well worth it. Eventually you will need it. At least the clutch and why not the flywheel while your at it.

What do you mean it like to jump a bit? Does it also have an irregular idle as well?

1gDSM4g63 you say the lightened flywheel won't be of any use, why?

To clarify my clutch is going out, and that is the reason I am replacing it with the act2100. I thought I might as well consider the flywheel as well. The RRE option might be a good choice but I don't know if shaving off 5Ibs is worth the $.

Well, base on your profile of the car and what you said, "I never race" I assume you're not going to modifying your car that much in the future.

You say that you drive aggressively but I assume that you don't launch which mean you don't need an ACT 2100 and beside even with a 14b turbo you won't need it for launching anyways. Furthermore, a lightened flywheel will give better responsive but I can hardly see it making much difference on a 14b turbo that you'll notice.

That is my 2 cents. You should look at the Tech page and follow the upgrade sequence stage by stage.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your feedback. I guess at this point I will probably just get the act2100 and have my stock flywheel resurfaced.

What I mean by jumping is it bucks - a SMALL amount because there is less inertia behind the flywheel.. It's not a big deal at all and easily adapted around. I have NO idle problems and if you plan on upgrading in the future, why not get it all down now - do you really want to pull the tranny down again or pay someone to when you decide a flywheel is a good idea? money spent now is less work/frustration later.

I think I know what you mean, similar to trying to idle along in 1st gear on a dirt bike.
