In the first two gears when giving heavy gas, there is a vibration coming from my clutch area. I had a tranny rebuild 2000 miles ago, and a new clutch replacement 750 miles ago. the vibration/grinding can occur on a hard start also... i was wondering if this was clutch chatter, and if so, is it damaging? Performance < ?

I gave it a good break-in period ... but mostly freeway miles...

all help appriciated!

most likely is not chattering from the clucth. Clutch chatter happens when you depress clutch pedal to disengage clutch and re-engage the clutch with a low speed gear in (sometimes happens on higher gears too, especially downshifting).

Continously driving on chatter clutch will cause the clutch disc to separate. How do I know? Happened to me and the clutch was installed by a reputable shop.

Is there anything that can be done about it? I've gotten 2 new clutch assemblies already, this is getting ####ing rediculous.

learn how to do clutch swap yourself. Make sure to use clutch pilot tool to guide the disc in evenly. Torque down the pressure plate in correct order. Torque everything to spec.

If installing new stock flywheel, take it to a machine shop and ask them to check for flatness and depthness of 0.610+-0.002. I know this sounds crazy on a new factory flywheel, but check it anyway. If the new flywheel is indeed out of spec, have them resurface it.

are you sure the clutch cant chatter at WOT in higher rpm's in low gears?

About the swap myself... i dont trust myself on such a major job, unless i had an expert with me. Plus, i dont have the tools :)

It's combination of clutch chatter and the transmission wanting to shift to idle gear. Try to start a car from roll with third gear. I'm sure it's similiar to clutch chatter on your car. Now if you have clutch chatter and driving your car at low speed with high gear, that's just asking for trouble.

Clutch swap is not that hard. With the money you pay for someone to do it, the amount is equivalent to tool money with some change left. Good luck.
