I heard of people using the galant vr4 trannys into their talons or eclipses.. I found a decent price on one so i was wondering some things. Is the vr4 tranny better then the stock one on a talon? Can i use a 91vr4 tranny into my 90 talonawd.? what are the differences? Does anything need to be adapted to make the vr4 tranny fit? Things like that. Please Help me out

Thanks, Gary

The only difference between DSM (91-92) and GVR4 tranny is the first gear ratio. It is the first gear ratio, which is numerically lower (or allows you to spend more time in the 1st gear).

Some believe that it is better for drag racing and "upgrade" their trannys to GVR4 1st gear. I am not of that believe... I happen to hate GVR4 1st gear, because it makes the car much more likely to bog. But I only tried it in heavy Galants. It might be better in my car, which is almost 600lbs lighter than your typical GVR4.

GVR4 will shift just as bad as DSM 91-92 tranny, but should be better than '90. And no match for 93-94 in shift quality. But they are also stronger than 93-94 trannys (only matters once you start running 11's).

Aside from this, you will have the same issues with GVR4 as you will with any 91+ trannys.

90 has different shifter and cables (you should install 91-94 mechanism for best results).

90 has 22 spline transfer case. Not a big deal, as you can always keep the original transfer case from the GVR4 tranny or retrofit 22 spline shaft into a GVR4 tranny and use 90 T-case. Ether way is easy, you just have to keep track of things...

Last issue with '90 trannys is their center diff. If you happen to have Speed Design, or some other 4 spider gear center diff, you can't use it in 91.5+ trannys.
