I've got a 4 bolt rear end - the nuts on the cup side backed off the bolts and left the axle hanging then ended up damaging the control arms (both upper and lower) in the rear.

i replaced both upper & lower control arms, replaced the 4-missing bolts on the axle/cup side and took the car for a drive around the block.... seemed to drive alright until i hit the throttle. the car slipped like a bad clutch. the car doesn't move forward at all unless the rpms are really high (4k);

the clutch is only months old and worked fine before - i'm wondering if i might have busted a diff or what else i could look at. could i have caused more problems by moving the car with only 3 working axles? the right-rear side fell out, was replaced, now the car hardly moves.

i'm open to trying anything ;] :cry:
...for the record - i didn't have jack to do with the axle falling out - the asian kid before me was a really pos mechanic. two weeks from the date i bough it... one of the cam bolts backed out on the highway - the cam 'just fell out' :tease:

anyhow - lemme know whats up on my drivetrain - i'm stumped

I have seen this happen with a broken axle. It was not pushed into the splines the way it should have been. The car would drive fine until you tried to give it any boost. Then it would act like the clutch was slipping BAD.

I dont know if the clutch would be your issue if you have had good luck so far with it. And I would agree with you that I dont think it would be wheel spin.

I hope this helped at all.

fits my problem to a "t" ;]
i'm going to try to insert the axle again - are there any alignment guides to follow?

Lift one rear wheel and try to turn it with the car in gear. (Simple test of rear diff and rear axles.)

If you were driving the car with only 3 axles then you could have destroyed the transfer case. I would check that as well as the rear diff.
