First, I have to vent:

I let my brother in law drive my Talon about 1/2 mile in town, cause he wanted to and I'm a retard. I had a flashback of letting him drive my old GSX and he ran it so hard the dipstick popped out and he ran it out of oil, but I went against better judgement.
Anyways, he wanted to launch it and I told him to rev to 5k and dump it. He revved to almost 6k, and rode the clutch through the whole thing. We parked it and all I smelled inside and out was burnt up clutch. He thought it was funny, but he liked how it felt and went out and bought an EVO a week later. The same EVO I was going to sell my Talon to get, had he not burnt up my clutch. What a jerk. I asked him to help pay for the cost of the clutch, he says no cause it couldn't have been his fault. The clutch had to have already been going out, he just happened to be the unlucky driver that finished it off. For the record, my Talon has 106k miles on it, and was completely stock up until 10k miles ago. There was nothing wrong with my clutch, but whatever.

End rant, on to the question. See, I can still drive the car, but the clutch itself feels really weak, and if I boost higher than 5, it slips and feels like its in neutral...then it grabs again, and repeats that until the car isn't producing much power anymore. So I'm wondering if I can possibly save the clutch, maybe its just badly glazed? This is the only time the clutch has ever been roasted. Or do you guys think I would be ok babying the car around til I can afford a new clutch? I kinda have to drive it, everything else I have sucks in the snow.

So what does everyone think? And I'm curious to know what happened to all the rest of you that have had their clutches go out?

Slipping is the most common thing to happen when the clutch is worn. Sounds like that is what is happening with yours. You may be able to baby it for a while, but you will need a new one soon. When my clutch started to slip, I bought a new clutch. When I removed the old clutch the disc was worn down to the rivots, definatly needed replacement. I don't think you will have any chance of saving it. If you have to drive it, be gentle and only drive when nessacary. So was the clutch put in 10k ago? Depending on how you drive and how much you launch it will greatly affect the life of the clutch. If you drive it hard that may be all you will get out of the clutch for mileage.

No it's the stock clutch, but it's been launched a max of 20 times its entire life, it was owned by an older person before I got it so I've been the only one to abuse it, and it hasn't been abused much, or very badly at all.
I figured it probably doesn't have a whole lot of life left, but hopefully it can get me through the rest of winter.
Not sure what I'll upgrade to, but I think I'll just get the 2600 and a street flywheel, so that hopefully I won't have to deal with this again anytime soon.

First off this is a normal thing that happens on our cars. Shouldnt blame him for this. Ive ran way more than half a mile and not lost really any oil.

And on the clutch it was going out. I have seen people do some really bad stuff and not kill a clutch. 100,000 miles is a lot for a stock clutch. He is right and is the unlucky bastard that it went out on. Actually a little slipage is way better than just dumping the clutch. Dumping it real hard is real bad on the stock center diff.
