OK, I'm getting '91 TSi AWD manual. I test drove it. Very nice minus the lack of power steering. But I noticed that when I shifted at my normal rate, it grinded into gear. It went in, but it ground. The seller (an experienced DSMer with the AWD) said that the AWD's need a slower shift because they are AWD. I got used to it and the car was fine and all. But I was just curious.
BTW, my '98 has a short throw, shifter base bushings, shifter end cable bushings, a lightweight flywheel and motormounts, so I think that accounts for stuff. But I just couldn't make out that it grinded but could go so easily into gear. My car when it grinds... it doesn't go at all. (not that it does it unless I screw up). Thanks!
