I search and came up with half answers and suggestions, no methods.

As time goes on after buying this car, I found out more and more the previous owner skipped out on, including maintenance. I would not be surprised if in the 97,000 miles it has that the transmission fluid has never been changed. I am working on getting the car to where it should be and in this list of things that needs to be done is a transmission flush.
I don't want to just drain 3 or 4 quarts, it needs to be drained and cleaned out completely.

Some threads suggested that there is special cleaning solvent that you fill the tranny with, run it for a while, drain it all and then fill with tranny fluid? What is the correct way to do this?

I have some Royal Purple Synchromax that I want to use, I just need to know what the correct procedure is for getting rid of ALL the old fluid and cleaning out the transmission and how much fluid I will need to fill it back up. Thanks!

There really is no manual trans "flush" with a machine or anything, I would say that draining through the drain bolt would get 95% of the old fluid out, if you really wanted to do a flush you could get some cheap trans fluid and drain old, put in cheap drive it then drain and perhaps repeat a couple times, then add your good stuff. Also you might add .5 quart of ATF to it to your old stuff and drive around before you drain it. ATF contains lots of detergents, cleans stuff pretty well.

Yes, good suggestions. I also like to use a pair of jacks and tilt the car side to side to help drain out a few more ounces of old fluid.

So when I drained it, i somewhat expected some burnt smell but it was almost overwhelming how strong it was. I can't imagine the last time the fluid was changed. I didn't see any metal flakes but it all was flowing out pretty fast.
Changing the fluid didn't help as much as I hoped it would, probably because the damage has been done to the transmission already by the previous owner...
