I am installing a shepard racing tranny in my 99 GSX, and the "read before installing tranny sheet" from shepard it says "when bolting the trans to the block, do not forget the 12mm head bolt that is installed through the block into the trans directly above the passenger side axel where it enters the trans. Failure to do so will result in poor shifting and block failure." I cant get ahold of them to ask, so does anyone here know what they are talking about? I dont remember this bolt when pulling it out. Is this maybe a reference to a 1G only?

Also, I am confused on what goes into 4 threaded holes in the back of the tranny, under the battery and in between the rear and side tranny mounts. Here is a pic. Thanks for any help

As far as not getting ahold of us did you try during business hours ? We have all calls returned and no messages.

The only hole that is used is the one in the lower left. There should be a round rubber vent in that hole. Check in the box or look around on your floor. They are easily knocked off during shipping or installation. If you cannot find it please call and I will ship you one.

The 12mm head bolt goes through the block into the trans and is located above the driver side axle where it enters the trans. many people do not reinstall it but it is a very important bolt. Almost every case of bellhousing failure is from this bolt being left out.

The 12 mm bolt that John is talking about is defently on the 2g, I just finished pulling/installing my trans. All the other trans to engine bolts are 14mm and enter from the trans side. The 12mm bolt enters from the engine side, & like John said its on the back of the block right above the drivers side axle.

Thanks for the help guys. Is the bolt really small in diameter with a 12mm head? If its the hole I see, the bock side is threaded and is really large, and it feels like the tranny hole is much smaller. Why is that?
