1.8L & 2.0L Tranny N/A Questions

ask your self this. Are the engines different sizes? Would that mean they havent different cranks? Would that also mean the block would be smaller and the bolt patterns not line up?

wow... stupidity is at an all time high... I should think before I open my mouth LOL

I thought the blocks were the same size, just the 2.0 has been bored out more. And I read somewhere that the 1.8 is a 6 bolt. But I still don't know if they'll work with a 2.0 6 bolt motor or not.

LOL--no biggie man and as for the second reply.....about the blocks being the same size. WELL, the 1.8 MAY be a 6-bolt BUT!!!!......its a different...refer to the engine code on your fire wall...i dont THINK itll say 4g63

If it's a manual 5 speed F5M22 tranny it will work on a 1.8 or 2.0. The automatics on the other hand are a different animal in which case you should convert to manual. My friend has a 90 1.8 5 speed and my sister is a 93 2.0 5 speed both non turbo and both trannies are F5M22. So you are no as stupid as you might think. All DSMs went down the same line so even though there are many different models they are also very similar underneath. If they were not then they would have been a lot more expensive to build.

it's true that keeping the same tranny for the line would be cheaper, but is it true that they would? i was going to post the same question about the 1.8 tranny swap to a 2.0. i would think they were the same. here's my problem. trannies and dsm parts in general, are hard to find near me. i found a 1.8L manual tranny that i want to swap into my 2.0L non-turbo with an AT. a large feat at best, but can it be done? i will research it more, but anyone with experience or documented facts please post and let us all know.

they r interchangeable as long as they r nt tranny's the turbo ones r diffrent.. i got a 2.0 auto tranny in my 1.8
