converting 97 gst to an awd using a 95 gsx auto

How much of a pain in the ass will it be to convert my 97 gst to an awd drive using a 95 gsx. the problem is, the gsx is an automatic and and my gst is a 5 speed. obviously i would be swapping to a 5 speed awd tranny which raises my concerns to whether or not the transfer case and all the axles are the same? basically i want ot know how much trouble it woudl be to swap it all over and what all parts are different or i owuld have to buy to make it a 5 SPEED AWD (GSX basically) keep in mind, my awd drivetrain will be coming from an automatic. I also have about a 1000 dollar apexi 3.5" exhaust system, will this not work once i put the driveshaft in there??? basically if im going to lose my exhaust and spend way to much doing then forget it. if i can keep it under a 1000 bucks KEEP IN MIND I ALREADY HAVE THE GSX then its a go. someone that has done the swap, let me know

You don't even want to bother doing this. First off, none of your drive line from the auto AWD will work if you are planning on going to M/T. you would need a M/T transfer case and a rear end out of a M/T as the gearing is different. You would also have to swap out the gas tanks b/c of the drive shaft. exhaust might be able to fit if it is modified. you would be better off just swapping the GSX to M/T and using what you can from your FWD on the AWD.
I considered doing a swap like this on my FWD. only i was just doing a FWD to AWD.. It wouldn't be too bad if the GSX was already a M/T car but you will have atleast your $1000.00 tied up into M/T tranny, transfer case and rearend most likely.
 
Agreed. It's much more financially feasable to start with an awd vehicle if that's the end result you want.

They can be had every once in a while due to broken timing belts. Yay. That makes it easier and cheaper for us to buy and fix.

Try that first.
