I bought a shep trans. Its awesome. But I now have a cracked trans beacause of my mounting. (Dont ever start with me my As-s is very sore)

-Here are some pictures

I took off the flywheel for kicks today I wanted to send you these pics to see if you could tell what the throw-out bearing is…. In "picture 1”….that is the throw out bearing right? I was thinking of replacing it while I had everything off again but wasn’t sure if I really needed to do that or not…..

“picture 3” shows the over-all picture and then picture 2 goes to the bolt that I cannot figure out. Do you have any idea what size threads this is? I remember it being a 12mm bolt head but cant figure out for me what the thread size is. I don’t think it’s the same as the others because I can run the other bolts from the front side in “ok” but when I try to run it it the right way (from the back-side) it wont let me start it….

I have a buddy with a 90 dsm, I’m gonna pull his bolt out and try to match it up…..

untill then, does anybody know what specs that bolt is?????

Thanks again……learning lessons…gotta love um

The pictures you just posted are off the Rear Main Seal. Your throw out bearing is on the clutch fork inside the bellhousing of the transmission. As for the bolt that goes in the dowel pin it has a 12mm head and the bolt itself width wise is small. I don't know the exact size sorry but take a look at the bolts that hold the slave clyinder they look exactly the same and they might even work so try that. Am pretty sure i used a slave clyinder bolt in that dowel pin and it worked.

IIRC its an M8X1.25 bolt, about 50-60mm long. I have seen the block drilled and the transmission drilled and tapped for the larger bolt that is used in the other mounting holes in the transmission with success. Though I don't recommend it if you don't have much experience with the subject.

Whatever you decide, make sure you get a bolt in that rear hole through the block, there should be a dowel pin in that one, as well as the very front mounting hole. I have witnessed a few cases of the front transmission mounting ear breaking off of the engine block because this rear bolt is missing.

As for throw out bearing, it does not appear in any of your pictures.

Also, don't forget the flywheel dowel that gets installed in the smallest hole in the crankshaft.

Hope this helps,
JRM
