Tranny Knotchy!

I have a 98 eclipse gs as you know.
Its a 5 spd...

Now here comes my problem...


From 1 - 2 its a little knotchy...
From 2 - 3 its fine
From 3 - 4 its ok
From 4 - 5 its a little bit knotchy... (NOT BAD!)

what do you think it is?

i called mitsubishi and they told me that it is probably the clutch and that it may need replacing... or possibly a TO bearing...

i know for a fact! the shop that is closest to me dosent actually like working on any modified cars!

what should i do?

Change your fluid to GM synchromesh first and that may smooth things out a bit for ya.

how hard you think it will be to change that fluid?

It's easy to change the fliud. There is a drain bolt on the bottom of the tranny.
After drained. take out the fill bolt on the front of the tranny and refill. with a long tube and a funnel until the fluid comes out of the hole. Done.

Does my local autoparts store have the fluide i need?
Not the factory fluid but the syncromesh?

Nope gotta go to a GM dealership. It's about $9 a bottle. But it is well worth it.

Or you mean a mitsu dealship?

No, GM as in Chevrolet, Pontiac, etc...

Synchromesh is the gear oil they use in the manual tranny Corvettes, Firebirds, etc

A notchy tranny is quite normal for a DSM btw.

I thought it was, and i called the local dsm lot.

The man told me he has never heard this and that he has worked there 38+ years and hes never heard the problems with mitsu trannys...

I was like *RAISE THE BS FLAG*.....
But thats another story...

So a gm dealership keeps this fluid right? (should im thinking)
