rattle/flywheel?

I have been getting this rattle/tapping noise coming from the tranny side of the motor. I only hear it at idle and it does go away when I push the clutch in. It doesnt happen all the time but it has become more frequent. Could it be a cracked flywheel? Some people have mentioned the throw out bearing but that is usually more of a rubbing/grinding noise. From inside the car it almost sounds like a dash rattle. But I did pop the hood and could hear it coming from down around the tranny. Any ideas?

its most likely the throw out bearing. i have heard them make all kinds of noises. just make sure to get the all metal unit from mitsu, not the plastic half one.

If I rev the motor ( in neutral ) at idle the sound starts when the revs start to come back down. I was staring at the tranny and it sounded like the noise is coming from right where the tranny meets the engine. It sounds like something is loose and or rubbing/rattling. I just replaced the tranny fluid with BG fluid. Any more ideas?
