Funny question about DSM transmision bearings and races

Maybe shep can answer this one or one of the wisemen in the drivetrain area. But is there a number of bearing race failures that are common in are trans. I just rebuilt one last night and found that the race spun in the case which made the outer input roller bearing freeze up on the shaft. This worked it's way lose but the trans made one hell of a noise much similar to a right front wheel bearing. Just wondering if anyone had this issue ever come up with the DSM trans. Thanks, Jason
 
just adding to your question... something similar to this happened to n/t also... except mine is the output shaft bearings, they just totally shattered... it was making a sound of a worn wheel bearing like the same day it happened, also made the noise stand still, moving with clutch to the floor, in any gear didnt matter... but i know bearings aren't supposed to just do this, unless drivin harder than supposed to be, or installed uncorrectly, or improperly lubed...

If you keep them full of good quality lube, you should get a good amount of life from them. I've seen a lot of them fail early mostly due to low lubricant caused by leaking axle seal, front seal, etc. If your race is spinning in the case, I have in the past used a small pointed punch and ever so slightly dimple the case next to the race, all around the race . This adds compression to the race and should hold it and keep it from spinning. Some may not like this technique, but it has worked for me in the past. I still use it when necessary. Usually the input and counter bearings go first. This takes out the rest of them due to lateral loading which they really don't like.
