tranny sounds and cold weather

This is about my 1g.Ever scince its started to get cold out iv been having problems with my tranny.It still shifts real smooth but my tob is now whining and second gear sounds like an atom bomb dropping.Its a real high pitched whine .It doesnt sound like a normal tranny wine and gets louder with speed.It gets quieter and eventually stops the longer i drive.Is second gear going out or do i have other problems?Fluid is ok.

Did you ever leave gear lube out in the cold and try to pour it out.....it has the consistency of jello. Thats normal.

This is my 5th dsm and never had this problem befor.Its only doing it in 2nd gear and it has a newer clutch but dont know what type of tob they used. Im putting a oem one in next weekend.

Well then its either that or the imput shaft bearing. My talon was doin the same thing.

How do i tell?And if it is how do i fix?

Usually if its your tob, it'll make a clickin or metal on metal sound when your at a stop and the clutch is out. If its one of your bearings, it'll progressively get louder as you go but will eventually quiet down some the more you drive. My vw was doing that and was the loudest in the winter time, but as far as fixing either, the tranny will have to come out and may need taken apart....idk off hand how to get to that bearing but it IS a PITA.
