Seperate intermediate shaft from axle?!

How do you seperate the intermediate shaft from the axle. I ordered a new set of axles and the drivers side axle has the intermediate shaft still attached and for the life of me I can't figure out how to seperate it. I did a search and saw that you have to pound on the green cup the intermediate shaft attaches to. This doesn't work I've been pounding for awhile and it still won't seperate. Anyone have any advice or help with this. Should I be pounding against the cup on the side of the cup?

I had a similar problem. I took apart the cv shaft at the inner joint so just the cup was left in the intermediate shaft and took it to a shop and they used and arbor press on it. Its worth the couple bucks to save yourself the hassle.

Yes you will need to remove the cv boot and replace it. But after you remove the boot the two shafts will just slide apart no problem.

Well I seperated the boot from the cup and I see at the bottom of the cup is like a shiny metal circle. I thought this might be the end of the intermediate shaft going into the cup. I think I'm wrong cause I tried to pound the intermediate shaft out while holding the cup in a vice grip. This didn't work. I then tried to use a prybar and crack it loose by the end of the cup and intermediate shaft. After 30 minutes of this I said screw it. I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong. If I can't get it loose tonight I'm taking it to someplace and hopefully they can seperate it. I also tried pounding it apart by using a rubber hanmer and hitting against the carrier bearing?? The thing that spins and attaches the intermediate shaft to the car.

if ## talking about the drivers side Axel.
u will need a friend to do this. OR someone that wont mind gettin hit by a hammer

Normally it comes off pretty easy doing this,
Hold the Axel upright in the air place both hands on the long side
have someone hit downward on the carrier bearing that holds it to the block
spin it and hit it from all sides should start walking off slowly.
this is the only method Ive used and works pretty well.
i don't have any pictures to show sorry.

Well thanks for the help anyway guys. I was at this for a long time and couldn't seperate it. I took it to a transmission shop where the guy spent about 30 minutes trying to figure it out as well. To make a long story short he cut a hole on the bottome of the cup and used his 12-ton press to seperate it. He charged me $20 I was like WTF ! Oh well saved me a headache.
