Well I just got my motor installed a couple months ago and installed a set of custom solid motor mounts that I made. The only ones that are solid are the front and rear ones. Well the other day while driving around, the car started smoking from underneath and smelled like oil. Well I pulled over and noticed that tranny fluid was just pouring out of the tranny ( its a manual). Trailed the car home and jacked it up and noticed a a cracked about 10-12 inches long around the back side of the case. It appears that the crack is where the case bolts together, it cracked from bolt hole to bolt hole. I was just wondering if the motor mounts would cause enough vibration to crack a tranny housing? Thanks, Jared

If its cracked around the front diff, its possible something has broken inside the tranny and made its way between the front ring gear (diff) and the case.

The clearence between the ring gear and the diff is tight. If a fragment from a bearing race, gear tooth, etc makes its way in there,it will crack the case.

Thanks for the replies guys. Well I pulled the tranny and installed my back up tranny. Well I had to change output shafts and when I pulled the rear cover off of the crack tranny, I found that the gear sets had about a quarter inch of play in them. They were starting to eat into the case. So I am guessing that something let loose and got stuck near the center diff. Just have to see if my other tranny will hold up now. Thanks again for the help.

P.S. You can remove the output shaft with the tranny installed in the car

thanks again, Jared

if it does crack you can weld it closed, worked on my 1G when i had it.
