WTF ! I just bought this car about a week ago and the bellhousing just cracked. I looked and the retard I bought it from forgot to put a bolt in at the bottom of the tranny and it seperated enough to crack the bellhousing. Ive called all sorts of boneyards and they have nothing for my car. BUt I talked to "KenTSIII" on a IM and he said he has had his housing welded cause it cracked, and it worked fine and he is running 12's in his car so its way more powerfull than mine, so if its taking it, mine should too. KenTSIII, from indy race cores was very helpfull, Im glad I was able to talk to him. So im just wondering if anyone else has had this done and if so what needs to be done prior and after welding it. Im especially wondering if any place that can weld aluminum can help me. Ken reccomended BM tranny but they are in NJ and its about a 8 hour drive.... anyone have anyother info:confused:

My bellhousing cracked around a bolt boss and I had it welded at a welding shop no problem. You gotta remove the tranny, but you'd have to anyway to replace it.

I don't know where or how big the crack is in your bellhousing. Just clean the area real good and cover any sesnsitive areas while welding. A good welder shouldn't have any problem.

Cool. I was crappin myself when it first happened, trannys for these cost ALOT! It still sucks but Im replacing the clutch and flywheel with a ACT and fidanza while its out so Iguess that makes me feel better bout it cause I cant wait to drive it again. Thanks for the info, it helps my doubt about this.:thumb:

Yeah, you should be able to repair it, just make sure you take it to someone who knows what they are doing and has the right equipment. You are going to need A LOT of power to weld that bell housing. It is a huge heat sink. And, it will have to be VERY clean and the right filler used. Don't skimp. Make sure the shop (possible a metal fab/machine shop in the area unrelated to automotive stuff) has plenty of experience with aluminum.
