can it be done? the reason is because of the strength of the skyline tranny.

go ahead and flame.......

BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Sorry, couldn't resist...

Then why even bother using the 4G63? Cuz the RB26DETT is WAYYY stronger. Get my drift?

There is more to it than just "slapping" it together with JB Weld. Not to mention that neither motor nor transmission are even positioned correctly. 4G63 = latitudinal. RB26DETT = longitudinal.

Please stick around and READ READ READ. I'm just trying to help you out before the wolves wake up and eat you alive. Good luck.

thanks for the advice... sorta...

and bout the calling me a noob sh!t, ive been studying this (DSMs) for a while, and know what im talkin bout, otherwise i wouldnt talk.

i knew it would happen.....

Hey, I thought it was a good question... Maybe with a little custom engine mounting you can turn that sucker 90 degrees, and figure something out with the bell housing and how it would bolt up. If you have the money and the time then I think that would be an awesome thing to do!! I THINK you can select the amount of power disrtibution with that tranny too, like 10% in the front and 90% in the rear or 50/50- now that it COOL!!

Oh, it's definitely been done before, many times but it requires a lot of custom work.

Check out the old starions/conquests, they're not 4g63's but they probably mount in the engine bay in a similar fasion

buschur turned his rear wheel drive.he kicks some major a$$.
7.81 @ 173.8mph to be exact.

wow... that's pretty cool info. I was just thinking about that the other night, but I know I don't have the time and my QT clerk job probablly wouldn't fund that very successfully.

Where in my post did I call you a noob? Don't be so quick to point out something that's not there...

Anyways, about Buschur. He ONLY has a shop with an unlimited budget and resources. Heck, he sells his RWD conversion for $5000+ in parts ALONE! Then figure in the labor and customization. All that, and the only thing streetable on it would be the shift knob. Oh, did I mention there are only THREE RWD E/T/L in existence? And non of them run on pump gas?

What I'm trying to say is that although it's not "IMPOSSIBLE"....but why? Is it just because the Skyline tranny is stronger deal? Have you ever driven a high HP DSM with a PROPERLY built DSM tranny? Hey, if John Shepard can run 9's with it, what makes it so "weak"? How fast did you want to run? 7's?

Look, I'm not going to bash you for thinking outside the box. But sometimes, some things are just way out there... Sure if you were a multi-millionaire with nothing to do but build custom rides, sure. But we all know that most of us don't have the kind of money to spend (if you do, why the hell are you driving a DSM for christ's sake!) And if you do have that kind of money, why are you even in here asking questions about it? You would have already gone to a shop and have it done already.

Lastly, (yes there's an end to this rant) USE WHAT YOU GOT! Just because STOCK DSM trannys are known to go out, doesn't mean that it's sh!t. TRE and BMTranny builds pretty stout transmissions. They have numerous DSMs running 9's/10's/11's. Let me ask you this, "How fast are you NOW?"

[/rant] :thumb: :D

that sorta shouts NOOB......anyway....

im like most other people u talk of, not much money. and i will stay with my stock tranny when i get my dsm because of this.

about John Shepard, hes says that he eases his car off the hole because hed rather sacrifice minorly his 60' times to not break drivetrain parts.

Hey, that was meant for a reason. There are some guys on here that will flame you til you're raw.

But I'm serious, stick around and READ READ READ! You'll learn alot of sh!t you normally won't. Good luck on your car when you get it and post any other questions you may have. We're all in this together.

John Shepard pulls 1.4 60' and 4.00 330' that is by no means launching the car easy.

For a car with 800+ hp on tap and an AWD system that runs 8's, I'd say that is a pretty easy launch! If he would dump the clutch on that car I'm sure he could reduce that 60ft time even more (but probably with broken parts).

He runs 9's. I don't think anyone has run 8's on "street" tires, unless TitanMotorsport/s MKIV has done it already.

Woops, I was thinkin Sean Glazer. Sorry for the confusion OMG

from what I hear shepard has to rebuild his tranny every 28 to 30 passes, unless you do it your self thats quite a chunck of change. figure that out thats like 8 miles on a transmission, sure its being put threw hell but please that nucking futz. granted most of the people here wont be puting that much power to the ground dsm trannys still are pretty weak no offense to any one and I do have a tre built tranny which does not mean I know what I am talking abotu caues I am still learning
later

LOL! It's okay, we all make mistakes. Yea, Sean is the only DSM into the 8's. He goes through trannys every other event, and for transfer cases, more like every other pass! OMG

The MSP Supra ran 8.8@160 at Maplegrove, PA IDRC event in the street class.

The MSP Surpra has street tire locked up for now, but...

DSM's will no longer be able to compete in the street tire class next year, it's going to be insane. Paul from MSP has already hit 8.86's at 160 on street tires this season, along with the Titan crew. Then there is a new guy that I know building 2 SC300's for the street tire class, he's spending $500K a piece for the cars ($100K of it is TRD engine), and using the same turbo setup as Paul...the Turbonetics Y2K. All these guys (both Paul and Justin) are running Motec's (I have never met the titan crew). And they are both planning to push the street tire class into the high 7's by next season's end. Think it's impossible? There are Mustangs running 7.02's right now on street tires. DSM's will no longer be able to compete after this season. Oh yea, I know these guys and am speaking from first hand knowlege...I supply Paul with his fuel (plain ole C16) for his supra.

Actually, it is my understanding that Sean is no longer using a DSM transmission, but a clutchless manual. I cannot recall the name of the manufacturer, sorry.

It's always the rich kids who spoil everything huh? :p

Oh well, I guess I'll stick to the local tracks instead. There are still a few Domestic guys that don't believe an "Import" can run 11's on street tires, not even on slicks!

One of our customers is planning on doing a 3KGT VR4 motor/driveline in his first gen. We'll see if everything fits and what doesn't, we'll try to fab.

Should be interesting.

As far as the Skyline... I don't think so :)
