Kansas City,
ok here we go....couple weeks ago I popped the clutch at about 5500 rpms and the car started smoking and I look at it and the outside edge of my tranny is broken...almost all the way around and the slave cylinder broke...does this mean that my tranny is broken or just the bell housing
trying to..I found a used one for 150
I can't get the bellhousing off.
......the bellhousing DOES NOT come off the case, it is integral. you must start at the outside end, remove all the bolts holding the small cover, loosen the 5th gear mainshaft and countershaft gears, gget a puller to take them off, pull your viscous coupling off, dont lose the small ball bearing that locks the transfercase output shaft. then remove the 3 14mm nutz on the front side by the pass. end. it has a spring and ball in each one. remove the center diff. next pull up on the intermediate case and all your gears are exposed. remove the front diff and adjoining shafts. what is left when you are all done is what needs to be replaced, the whole front half of the case, good luck.
